Finland Euro Triple Set

The production of euros in Finland started as early as in 1998. In compliance with a statute issued by the European Council, the euro didn't become an official currency of the then 11 EMU countries until 1 January 1999. Coins manufactured before that time could not be dated with the real year of minting. Thus, the coins minted in 1998 carry the year marking 2002.

From 1999 onwards, all Finnish euro coins have been minted each year: they are dated 1999, 2000 and 2001. When the euro was adopted in Finland on 1 January 2002, our euro coinage carried the year markings 1999, 2000 and 2001. Finland made this decision due to reasons of security and quality.

This triple set - the Finnish euro coinages of the years 1999, 2000 and 2001, is the first of its kind, and in superior proof quality. It's a valuable rarity. Each set is accompanied by a historical commemorative mint medal, each with the obverse and the reverse featuring the year in the middle, and the constellation of EU stars as mirror images of each other above and below. The commemorative medal was designed by Hannu Veijalainen at the Mint of Finland.
